Clover: Body Benefits

Body benefits

Why clover helps

What is in clover, and what those nutrients and plant compounds do in the body.

Phytonutrients

Clover sprouts naturally contain isoflavones, mainly formononetin and biochanin A. These plant compounds are sometimes called phytoestrogens because they interact weakly with the body's estrogen receptors, which is why clover anchors our women's hormone and bone blend.

What we know and don't

Research on clover isoflavones mostly uses concentrated extracts. One trial of a red clover extract lowered fasting insulin, but that was an extract, not sprouts eaten as food. We use clover for plant diversity and fiber, and position its isoflavones conservatively.

Safety

Clover sprouts contain L-canavanine, which peer-reviewed research has linked to lupus-like flares. If you have an autoimmune condition, a hormone-sensitive condition, or are pregnant, check with your clinician first.
